Preface |

The Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education Center of National Kaohsiung University of Science and Technology aims to enhance students' practical skills in product development and planning, aligning them with industry trends and market demands. To achieve this goal, we are organizing a talent cultivation program focusing on design and planning. We are seeking fresh talents in design.

The theme of this program is the Shoushan Zoo in Kaohsiung City, where students are encouraged to provide creative proposals from both product development and planning perspectives. Through this initiative, we aim to nurture and actualize innovative proposals from students.

Activity Theme |

Product Group

  • Theme: Animal Education Group
  • Develop products with the characteristics of Shoushan Zoo and educational significance
  • Develop commercially viable products.
  • Consider product processing to be completed in small quantities within 3 months.

Planning Group

  • Theme: Animal Fun Park
  • Plan and execute educational activities involving animals with a budget of 100,000 NT dollars.
  • The plan should be achievable within the year 2024.
  • The activity should demonstrate creativity and be evaluated for its potential to attract crowds.
  • Shoushan Zoo's second-half annual event plan: September - Little Detectives, October - Environmental Halloween Parade (participants can evaluate this item and conduct joint activities. The planning activity can also be conducted independently).

Eligibility |

  1. Students currently enrolled in domestic tertiary institutions.
  2. Individual or team entries (teams limited to a maximum of 3 members).

  3. At least one member of the team must be a student from National Kaohsiung University of Science and Technology (If the team does not have any members from National Kaohsiung University of Science and Technology, the organizer will facilitate cross-school collaboration opportunities after review).

Registration Instructions |

  1. Registration Period: From now until April 17, 113 (Wednesday) 17:00.
  2. Each team can submit up to 2 proposals (regardless of the total number of proposals for the product group or planning group).
  3. Proposal file format: One PowerPoint (ppt) file and one PDF file (presentation file name: submission theme - team name).
    • Content of the product group presentation: Design explanation, target audience, developed items, design drawings (perspective view, three-view drawing, usage simulation), estimated price, team introduction, records of participation in cultivation courses.
    • Content of the planning group presentation: Target audience, activity planning content, promotion methods, execution content, scheduling from August to November, budget planning, manpower planning for activities, team introduction, records of participation in cultivation courses. 

Proposal Evaluation |

Proposals will be evaluated based on their category. The evaluation will be conducted through in-person presentations, and the organizing committee will invite relevant experts and scholars to review the proposals. A total of 10 teams from both the product group and planning group will be selected (the number of selected teams may be adjusted based on the quantity and quality of submissions) for cultivation. To ensure fairness in resource allocation, each team can only have a maximum of one proposal selected for cultivation. The evaluation criteria are as follows:

  • Evaluation Date: April 20, 113 (Wednesday) afternoon
  • Evaluation Method: In-person review 
  • Evaluation Venue: National Kaohsiung University of Science and Technology (First Campus), Basement 1 of the Library
  • Presentation Time for Each Team: Estimated 5-10 minutes (presentation time may be adjusted based on the number of registrations)
  • Failure to attend the presentation on the scheduled date will result in disqualification.
  • Failure to attend the presentation on the scheduled date will result in disqualification.

 

Visitor Voting (Product Group) |

Teams will provide product samples and explanation boards to be displayed at Shoushan Zoo in Kaohsiung City for two weeks. During the voting period, visitors can cast one vote per person per day to select their favorite piece through on-site voting. The team with the highest number of votes will receive a subsidy award. The winning team will be granted a subsidy of 100,000 NT dollars to support the small-scale production of their product.

 

Subsidy Award Review (Planning Group) |

The organizing committee will invite experts to select one promising planning proposal. The selected team will be awarded a subsidy of 100,000 NT dollars to implement their proposal.

 

Activity Rewards |

  1. For Cultivation Teams

    • The subsidy funds must be verified for their intended use and disbursed in accordance with the internal financial regulations of the university.

    • In order to ensure the full participation of the teams in the guidance process, each team receiving guidance and mentoring support must pay a deposit of NT$3,000. This deposit will be refunded by the organizing committee upon submission of the confirmed sample (for the product group) or project plan (for the planning group). However, if a team withdraws from the guidance process midway or fails to produce results, the deposit will not be refunded. Additionally, the teams receiving guidance must agree to sign a contract.
    • The teams in the product group must submit at least one set of finished products to the National Kaohsiung University of Science and Technology Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education Center by July 5th of the 113th year. These finished products will be used for visitor voting and outcome exhibitions.

    • The teams under guidance are allowed to borrow equipment from the Dream Factory for the processing of product manufacturing.
    • During the mentoring process, each team is required to have at least one discussion with the mentor teacher every month, and the discussions must be documented.
    • If the proposed product from the product group is already available or being sold in the market, the proposal will no longer serve the purpose of cultivation. In such cases, the qualification for cultivation will be revoked, and the deposit will be refunded.
    • The intellectual and proprietary rights of the creativity selected for guidance under this project belong to the creative team.
    • The development process of the products should avoid any design infringement. If any product is found to infringe on the rights of others, the team's guidance qualification will be revoked. Additionally, the team members will be held fully liable for any legal consequences resulting from the infringement.
    • After the product development process under guidance, if the team participates in relevant competitions, they should acknowledge the guidance and support provided by the National Kaohsiung University of Science and Technology's Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education Center
    The teams receiving subsidies
    • The subsidy must be verified and disbursed in accordance with the internal rules for reimbursement at the university.
    • In order to ensure the full participation of the teams in the guidance process, each team receiving guidance and mentoring support must pay a deposit of NT$3,000. This deposit will be refunded upon completion of product manufacturing (for the product group) or completion of the event (for the planning group). However, if a team withdraws from the guidance process midway or fails to achieve the expected results in product development, the deposit will not be refunded.
    • The teams receiving guidance must agree to sign a contract.
    • The product group must complete mass production and sales according to the sales and trial production plan by the end of November 113. They must also provide 10% of the finished products for each item to the organizing committee.
    • The planning group must complete the event by the end of November 113.
    • The mentoring teams can utilize the facilities of the Dream Factory for the processing of their products.
    • During the mentoring process, each team is required to engage in a discussion with the mentor teacher at least once a month, and keep a record of the discussion.
    • The moral rights and intellectual property rights of the creativity selected in this project belong to the creative team.
    • The development process of the product should avoid design infringement. If infringement occurs, the team's guidance qualification will be revoked, and the responsible individuals will be subject to full legal liability.
    • After the productization, if the mentored team participates in relevant competitions, the National Kaohsiung University of Science and Technology Entrepreneurship and Innovation Education Center should be listed as the guiding unit
    • The team must participate in the 2025 U-star project and agree to apply through the National Kaohsiung University of Science and Technology.
  2. The coaching unit
    • The Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education Center of National Kaohsiung University of Science and Technology has the right to photograph and publicly display the teams and their associated explanatory texts, images, and designs participating in the Design Future project. These may be used for exhibition, educational promotion, publicity, and publishing purposes without charge. The original authors/teams agree not to charge any fees for the use of these materials for the stated purposes.
    • The Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education Center of National Kaohsiung University of Science and Technology reserves the right to modify any selection methods. Any modifications will be announced primarily through the official activity fan page, without further individual notification.
    • Confirm that the processed products of the coaching team meet the quality standards for sale.
    • After the completion of the Design Futures Exhibition on December 31st, the processed products will be returned to the coaching teams.
